Learn how to get up and running with Promptly in minutes
Promptly is a powerful macOS application that brings AI assistance directly to your workflow. With its floating interface, you can access various AI models without switching between applications.
Installation
- Download Promptly from the official website.
- Open the downloaded file and drag Promptly to your Applications folder.
- Launch Promptly from your Applications folder or Launchpad.
Initial Setup
When you first launch Promptly, you'll be guided through a quick setup process:

Grant Accessibility Permissions: Promptly needs accessibility permissions to interact with text in other applications. Follow the on-screen instructions to enable these in System Settings.

Set Up API Keys: To use models like GPT-4, Claude, or Gemini, you'll need to add your API keys. You can do this:
- During initial setup
- Later through the Preferences menu (⌘,)
- See Adding API Keys for detailed instructions

Configure Keyboard Shortcuts: Promptly works best with keyboard shortcuts. The default shortcut to open the floating window is
⌥ + Space, but you can customize this in Preferences.
Your First Prompt
Using Promptly is simple:
- Select text in any application (optional)
- Invoke Promptly using the keyboard shortcut
- Type your prompt or use voice input
- Press Enter to submit
Promptly will process your request and provide a response. If you had text selected, Promptly can replace it with the AI-generated content.
Trial and Licensing
Promptly offers a trial period to test all features. After the trial expires, you'll need to purchase a license to continue using the app.
